Good day neighbors,
Just read the latest Inside Willo and the city streets & traffic department is again being a donkey?’s ass. They have appealed the Zoning Hearing Officer?’s decision to link the United Properties development with closure of Encanto.
The issue is more than the closing of Encanto. In my opinion it threatens the cohesion of the Willo neighborhood itself, possibly its existence. This development will add not only commercial owners but also some 625 people who may vote on issues that effect Willo and are not part of the Willo. They become a potential political force. The Willo is a single-family residence neighborhood that regards propositions differently than multi-family properties in general.
If the city approves the United Properties development with the closing of Vernon yet without closing Encanto it will funnels traffic from this development on to Encanto, Third Avenue north, Fifth Avenue south and exposes homeowners living along these streets to already unsafe volumes of traffic for a neighborhood setting. Remember these 625 residents are 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
The increase in traffic may warrant a zoning change request for households living along these arteries to ?“Commercial?” or UR. Can you envision for-sale signs popping up along these streets? Who will buy?…? possibly investors who want to construct more UR type development. Talk about setting precedence!
We must stop this development. We must close Encanto and all other east/west streets in the Willo. We must fight and encourage city officials to honor the Willo Neighborhood Conservation Plan.
