  • Respect-O-Meter: Valued Neighbor

I live in the old neighborhood "district" and I am anything but old I am a 23 yr old full time college student who is currently employed at one of the hospitals in abilene as a nurse, so therefore I work long stenuous hours and work weeks, On my days off and when I am home, I tend to my house along with my fiance, many times I see Lydia Long driving up and down my street, observing and watching what is happeneing " in the neighborhood " which happens a lot, and I stop and think to myself the people of the neighborhood have NO life of their own but to watch others and harass them about the condition of their homes/yards/sidewalks/trash/backyards/and not to forget the alley way. Its really kinda of sick and I find it violating my rights as a citizen of the United States of America, I don't have very much "free time " of my own, let alone feel like someone is watching my every move, It feels like I live at home with my parents watching my every step, and am unable to make decisions on my own about what happens around my house, and worry about someone turning me into the city, about ordinances I am "breaking" which rarely happens, but if you have nothing better to do than to spy on others just to get your kicks in, then you need more extracurricular activities, furthermore it doesn't make you look very christianly, seeing as Abilene is the Christian capital in the USA, we have a church on every corner, and if my mind serves me right then the bible does state "judge thee not for thee be judged."

This is Lydia Long, and first since I don't own a car, if you see me out 'spying' I must be walking my extremely overweight welsh corgi. Laughing

If you do see me out, why don't you call me over to visit and introduce yourself?  As a former ACU professor I always enjoy knowing there are students working towards their educations.  And the association is trying to give welcome baskets to new residents.

If you see someone casing the neighborhood who you don't know, please call the police or our crime watch captain. Mary Marshall 370 3306.

And, regarding code enforcement violations.  The neighborhood association (that meets the 1st Tuesday of each month at 602 Palm, you're welcome to attend) distributes the ordinances, along with a who to call list of phone numbers for trash pickup etc., during our yearly cleanup time.  We consider providing the information to residents a community service.   I suggest you go to the code enforcement office and ask them if I have personally reported any violations.  It is open record and I know you will find out that I have not called in any neighbor.  I'm not a code enforcement officer, that's the city job.  My JOB as neighborhood president is to try to build community.

I live at 741 Peach, please feel welcome to stop by and introduce yourself.  Lydia Long
