Join Portland Fruit Tree Project in increasing access to healthful food and strengthening communities by empowering neighbors to share in the care of urban fruit tree...

Volunteering at a Community Orchard is a wonderful way to learn new things, access fresh produce, and connect with your neighbors. We now have a community orchard in nearly every quadrant, and you're invited to join in the care (and harvest!) of your neighborhood orchard. We are specifically looking for “Orchard Stewards” for our community orchards in Outer-East, Northeast and North Portland, but have orchards in Southeast and Southwest Portland as well.

If you are interested, please email Orchards Programs Coordinator, Gareth Stacke (gareth@portlandfruit.org) with the subject title of "Orchard Steward Interest.". Or, you may phone to sign up at 503-284-6106.

East Portland - Parkrose Community Orchard

Our newest Community Orchard is also our first east of I-205. In October, over 40 volunteers came together to plant 30 fruit trees and dozens of understory. In 2016 we will organize a second phase of planting and establish the first Parkrose Orchard Steward Team.

North Portland - Fruits of Diversity Community Orchard

As it's name suggests, Fruits of Diversity is the home to a wide array of types of fruit trees. This half-acre plot was the first community orchard planted on public housing land in the United States. Fruits of Diversity is the home to 45 fruit trees and managed by a steward team with work parties taking place on the second Saturday of every month.

Northeast Portland - Sabin Community Orchard

Sabin Community Orchard was established in 2010 on an underutilized plot of land on a public right-of-way. Home to 30 fruit trees and abundant permaculture guilds, the orchard operates as a hub for community and sustainability. Sabin Community Orchard is managed by a steward team with "work & learns" taking place on the third Sunday of every month.
