Hello Everyone.

We moved here in January. I have a 3 year old little girl. I would like to take her to the park sometimes during the week. Is there a park that we can walk to without having to walk on Westport Road?

Unfortunately...

There are not many parks in the immediate area that you can walk to without traveling Westport Road. The good news is within 2-3 year we should have sidewalks on Westport. Closest park is off Washburn Avenue and it's nothing special. There is a nice park in Lyndon off of Old LaGrange behind the post office.

You should look at Louisvilleky.gov - They have a list and map of all the parks in Louisville.

True, there are no parks within walking distance. When we first moved here, we went to the playground at the church, but I think they have closed that off now. I'm sure you're probably not supposed to go to Walden, either. If you just want a big place to run around, you could use the cut-through to Kroger and run around in the big field there. But for swings, etc. you would have to go to seneca park or the park behind Ten Pin Lanes on Shelbyville Road. Actually, you could walk there. You would cut through to Kroger, walk about a block on Hubbards Lane, then turn left into that neighborhood, walk all the way to the end, and enter the park from the back. This is a pretty long walk, though; it would probably take at least 30 minutes to walk there. Brown Park is a nice little park with equipment, a walking trail, ducks, etc. but, again, you have to drive there.

FYI, The park mentioned off of Washburn avenue is getting a face lift of about $250,000. Ken Fleming, our District 7 councilperson helped make this project happen. It should be much more attractive soon.
