I'm writing today to ask for citizen participation in a five minute online nomination for obtaining Google's new Fiber to the Home service that they are going to start building within the next 12 months somewhere in the United States. You can find the nomination here: http://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi
The benefits of Gigabit Internet service to each house are enormous. First, the investment in the local workforce to install, maintain, and manage the service will be in the tens of millions of dollars for the first several years.. Second, the service would force competition with existing providers (AT&T and Insight), which would increase speeds from those two, while driving down costs. Third, the consumer experience would be enhanced. Support for new applications, streaming 1080p HD over your internet connection, and converged services (Telephone, Internet, TV over one fiber to the home). Gigabit internet service is approximately 100 times faster than your current Insight 10.0 service, and is not subject to slow downs, unlike Insight service when everyone is online at the same time.
Please take five minutes to nominate Louisville. The economic impact alone is enough to make this worth your time.
Thanks!
