More than 350 people attended the first of what hopes to be an annual event
organized and sponsored by the Wrigley Association. Wrigley Summer Fest
2007 ran from 630pm to 830pm on Friday July 20th in Veterans Park. The
Wrigley Association partnered with the LB Dept. of Parks, Recreation & Marine to host some events leading up to the popular Movies in the Park night. Wrigley Association Board Member P.G. Herman had the vision and put in many days of work to pull of this event. Herman and other Wrigley members solicited more than $6,000 worth of goods and services from business
and groups, most of them within Wrigley Village. Several other groups
including the Neighborhood Advisory Group, Better Balance for Long Beach,the 6th & 7th district council offices, LBPD-including their popular K-9
unit, Fire Fighters Association Local 372, CPAC and The Wrigley Moms
all participated and helped with the event. There were free hotdogs,
snacks,drinks and popsicles for everyone. A number of items were put into the free drawing including new sporting equipment like a basketball, tickets to the aquarium and gift certificates to Tacos Don Chente, Stater Bros, Olympic Cleaners and many other businesses. Parks, Recreation & Marine ran games for the kids throughout the event, there were bounce houses and face
painting as well Councilman Dee Andrews was in attendance for most of the event and addressed the crowd briefly.
