I thought that might get your attention?…..
Everyone is on here making all kind of noise that cannot be heard. You all have your complaints and your hopes for the city, but there has to be a better forum then this to make those ideas a reality. I appreciate this medium for discussion, but that is all it is?…what is it that you all say ?“put up or shut up?”. I read with interest everything everyone says (even Keiko), but where is the action? Wyandotte is my home?…I grew up here, and am raising my family here; I see a bright future in our city. The problem is many of you are out there ?“chatting?” and thats it, we want to hear you not read you. Did anyone hear Governor Granholm?’s State of the State? ?“Young people are rediscovering Grand Rapids, Wyandotte, Ferndale, and Detroit. These coordinated efforts will accelerate that trend ?– which is an economic imperative.?” Wow, were mentioned?…that is pretty ?“cool?”.

Leading me directly into my point. Granholm?’s ?“Cool Cities?” initiative is close to home. CREATE WYANDOTTE, our local ?“Cool Cities?” advisory group, is a group for all groups from neighborhood organizations to the DDA. It is about attracting and encouraging people to live, work, and play in the city we are working to create. It includes many things that I see over and over in this link?….Preservation/Adaptive Reuse (The Trillium), Walkable Communities (Why isn?’t our downtown open later on Fridays or all week?—how are we going to get people here), Arts and Culture (The Trillium?…what else do we have to offer?), and of course how do we use our beautiful waterfront parks to help the economic development of our community?
Please join us in our efforts to continue to ?“Create Wyandotte?” we are lucky we already have some great stuff to offer (our waterfront and our city was awarded a prize at a special meeting with the Governor and 20 other communities for the most unique initiative for creating activity in the downtown district with our 3rd Fridays?…let?’s make it even better. I?’m dedicated to this city and for those of you out there that feel the same join in.

Here is a recent e-mail regarding our next meeting:

Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 12, 2004, at 6:30 p.m. in the Yack Arena Conference Room. As always, these meetings are public so please bring anyone you feel would be interested in participating in our efforts. So please be prepared to share and develop ideas at this next meeting that we can begin to focus on and create.

Three projects that we singled out for everyone to do their homework on are as follows:

1. Outdoor movie nights downtown
2. Historical Tours
3. Wyandotte Summit

Remember, this is a fluid process and not one that needs to be confined to scheduled meetings. Our goal is to bring all of the different agendas that are affecting the economic development of our city together so that everyone can understand what we are doing, what we should do, what we can do, and what we want to do. It is only when we work together that we can truly do what is best for everyone.
