I agree
Before I put my thoughts in I guess I should tell you that I love the weather! I'm an amateur meteorologist and I am also a storm spotter for SKYWARN. Anyway, I have always thought that it would be a great idea to have a tornado/severe weather siren or alert system. I think the best thing to would be to double the BASF siren as a tornado siren as well. It really bothers me that so many people are uninformed about severe weather. Being the weather nut that I am, I am always on top of every severe weather chance we get around here. There have been many days that very severe weather is possible and I would ask people if they know about it and they just laugh at me and say ''the sun is out, there's not going to be any bad weather today!'' Then a few hours later a big storm comes through the area. I really feel the general public should be much more informed about severe weather and when it is possible.
Quick example....last Friday, very severe weather was a possibility. We didn't see any, but the chance was there and I bet that next to no one knew about it. What will it take for organizations such as the NWS to step up severe weather awarness? I;m not taking any credit away from them of course because there warnings and alerts are usually effective...but not everyone has a NOAA Weather Radio and not everyone has their TV's turned on. What if the power goes out? I do my best to keep the people I know aware of severe weather possibilites and I hope that other severe weather enthusiasts like myself do the same.
Thoughts anyone?
