Narrow Minded Politicians &

Citizens who are too busy to learn about the local issues and the local politicians. I was one of those citizens for many years but then, I woke up and realized that if I didn't get informed and didn't give them my thoughts that I had no room to complain about anything.

I also believe that a big part of our shortage of elected officials with creative ideas is directly attributable to our lousy salaries of $500 for council and $1000 for the mayor. These ridiculously low salaries keep many good people from ever considering taking on such a difficult task as is involved in meeting weekly and also participating in many special sessions and other sub-committee meetings. These low salaries also leave open that concern that elected officials benefit from some secret information or get some special secret perks that no-one else knows about. The real truth is that we run our city government on the backs of a few dedicated individuals that run for whatever reasons. However we are limiting the choice of our candidates to possibly retired individuals or businessmen who can afford to attend all those meetings and not ever be adequately compesated for the value of their time given each week.

This elected official salary issue needs to fixed before the next election in April 2005 or we will get the same old tired individuals and their tired ideas. I believe that you get what you pay for and I think we can afford to pay more in order to attract some new candidates with new ideas. The charter commission wanted to increase these salaries but once again they chickened out on a tough issue so the time has come for the citizens to demand some increases as the cost of better government and the salavation of a propserous future for our city .

A Good Point

You make a good point, while I do not know what salary would be fair, it seems like $ 20,000 for Council /
$ 25,000.00
for Mayor might be more fair to their work load, and attract sdomeone from a broader base.

It still does not solve the prob'lm I see of the JP'S running without outside business experience, but it might attract the ''bearmom, businesswoman'', prototype domestic leader, I have encouraged here.

I have met many strong capable women in Wyand running doctors offices, and serving as small business general managers, office managers, restaurant managers, who would make great council candidate's.

They have the fiscal experience JP does NOT have.

They have the temperment he does NOT have.

When this salary gets reviewed there should be in my opinion a minimum waiting period for a retiree city employee to run , suggesting 1 year.

It is my opinion, those are my issues.
NOT necessarily the person.

..didn't realize 710

710
At first I did not realize how small the demographic of the web this site actually is,small number of overall viewers.

... that it was a Fanclub,( Mickey Mouse also had a fan club you recall)

but now I see that the small number of responders many (not all )are potential campaign workers.

Nowhere are any rebutals to his Non Qualifications in having anything outside 27 yrs on the public payroll offered...no outside experience at all. NONE.

..and I feel there should be a 1 year wait for a retiring city employee running for elective office .

The Candidates existing work record is not a batting average of .300 as you might claim, but rather a mediocer .150 is more like it.

...and NO Sir ''he'' did not ring in $ 500K in drug forfieture from Detroit into Wyandotte as his wife so states...that is absurd...and that seems to be the platform she plans to run him on...

My suggestions is to take your deserved retirement and come to the meetings every week for 1 year...listen and take notes, study, and learn something about the economic issues of development facing the city.

Run after a 1 year wait.
