I agree
Dan,
I agree with your posting that this should be used to discuss real issues that can effect this community.
We have an election of Mayor and Council coming up and there needs to be individuals to run for the seats. We need to have a choice on who represents us and voting in the same faces will cause us to have another four years of this style of government.
The Revised Revision of the 1923 Charter is coming up again for approval. No it did not go away with the defeat of the first attempt.
The city has a study for manpower going on right now. They are studying common jobs and plan to combine jobs in the future. This city government says this is a way to reduce costs however it will also reduce people, create long lines for city services and other inconvientances for the citizens. I really do'nt see how they can combine services for Municipal Services and City Central. In a council meeting an issue of increases for employees of Municipal Services and the ZERO increase for Central City employes was brought up and a councilman stated 'By charter we have no say in what DMS does pertaining to pay or increases, except for approval of the General Managers salary'. So then how can forces be combined if the DMC Commission controls their and the Council controls City Central.
There are other issues - Who sits on the DDA? Who directs the DDA? Does the DDA follow the Michigan Open Meeting Act? Is RTA the official spokes person of the DDA? and Why is the DDA buying/leasing vacant buildings - did we all forget the Metropolitan Furnature Store and how the DDA handled that situation?
Yes there are more important issues we as citizens need to address that Love Lines, Personal Attacks, and Law Suits.
One last item - Partial Funding was given to the city to put in a marina - Oak to Maple from the water front into most of the parking lot. I feel that the leadership needs to forget about this and other consturction and get funding to support a weakened city work force.
