If you would like to volunteer to help out the Hurricane victims, please go to the Bart Peddicord Community Center in downtown Wylie to fill out paperwork for a background check. Once this is done, you can sign up to volunteer your time at the shelter which is located at the Armory (located behind the Wylie Police Station off of HWY78). Nobody is allowed access into the Armory unless you have first signed up at the Community Center and you are on the daily list to volunteer.
There is also a list of necessary items needed on http://www.wylietexas.gov/news/katrina/that they have been updating frequently. The drop off site for donations is the old Wylie Supermarket located on HWY 78 and Ballard St. (NE corner). You should find a listing of items needed posted on the door.
To volunteer for the shelter, you must be 18 yrs or older. You can be under 18 if you wish to volunteer at the old Wylie Supermarket (drop-off location).
Three buses arrived in Wylie on Saturday 9/3 bringing a total of 110 people. From what I understand, some have fortunately been reunited with family members, but several are staying at the Armory and will be there for quite some time.
Please volunteer your time if you can.
