Unemployment Compensation for Ex-servicemembers

serviceman.jpg

The Unemployment Compensation for Ex-servicemembers (UCX) program provides benefits for eligible ex-military personnel.

In addition, former members of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps are covered under the UCX program. The program is administered by the States as agents of the Federal government.

  • If you were on active duty with a branch of the U.S. military, you may be entitled to benefits based on that service.
  • You must have been separated under honorable conditions.
  • There is no payroll deduction from servicemembers' wages for unemployment insurance protection. Benefits are paid for by the various branches of the military, NOAA or USPHS.

Benefits

The law of the State (under which the claim is filed) determines benefit amounts, number of weeks benefits can be paid, and other eligibility conditions.

Filing A Claim

You should contact your State Workforce Agency as soon as possible after discharge. It may be helpful to have a copy of your service and discharge documents (DD-214 or similar form) when you open your claim. In many states, you may now file your claim by telephone and/or internet.
