Skateboarders and Traffic
If anything the kids boarding in the street have made drivers slow down and stop at stop signs and be more aware of their surroundings instead of speeding through and blowing stop signs!
I encourage the kids to rotate blocks to keep drivers in check!!!
Now I'm only haf kidding here, I travel 40th and live in this area and the kids have not been a problem, and do know the kids who are skateboarding have other summer activities and classes so will not be out in the street every waking hour.

kids should still be cautions
Although the kids are respectful of the drivers, all it takes is one driver not familar with the neighborhood to hit one of them. Why don't the kids play on the street of 41st & Clybourn? There is very little East/West traffic and hardly any South/North traffic.

Kids being cautious
I agree with there being that one driver that isn't paying attention or is unfamiliar with the neighborhood and could harm one of the kids, but they have been pretty observant and have watched out for cars and each other. The reason they don't go on 41st and Clybourn or either one of the dead ends to Skateboard in their defense) is because they continue to get kicked off the corner of 41st and Clybourn by other residents that don't want them on ''their corner'' or ''by their house'' because of the noise, which is absolutely ridiculous. Either people are complaining because the kids are causing trouble or their complaining because ''their playing to loud on their corner''. People around here aren't giving these kids much to work with here. My advice, if they are playing amongst themselves, skateboarding, ball, whatever, they aren't harming anyone, they are aren't causing trouble, but they ARE being respectful when a car comes or to anyone other neighbor in passing, just leave them alone!!!!

think its great
I think its great that the kids are skateboarding. I'm glad to see some ''good'' kids around here having some good old fashioned fun. I live on 40th and have not had any problems driving through, they all have been very considerate. It is such a refreshing change to have them here and outside and enjoying their summer rather than hear of all the other problems we've had with some other kids. Maybe the ''Valley Neighbor'' who posted the original message can feel more relaxed about the situation now that others have voice these opinions.
