My car alarm went off in front of our house the other day and I found the hood partially popped. On furhter inquiry I have heard we have a rash of car related crime. That was news to me. Any reason I'm not hearing about it on this site? Any ideas about why we have a crime spree?

The reason you probably are not hearing about it here or anywhere else is because people are for the most part not reporting the activity you are describing to the police.

A few days ago a neighbor had a car stolen and recovered within half a day. Another attempt was made within hours of recovery of the vehicle by 2 black youth to steal the same vehicle (again??). They were not caught, and it is not known if they were the origional thieves. The car was first stolen between 6:30 am and 11:30 am.

There has been a rash of vandalized vehicles at a particular apartment in the 400 block of North 39th Street, only 2 tenants reported any crime and when police showed up to investigate after the tenants notifed the property owner of these overall problems after the fact, instead of calling the authorities, a number of other tenants came forward while an investigator was there regarding their vehicles.

AS far as who is doing this stuff, if anyone has a clue they should notify the police. Best to call the Community Prosecution Team from Distrct #3: 414-935-7972. OR, If it's and incident in progress for example you see someone messing with a car, caseing a car, attempting to steal a car, hear your car alarm and see someone messing about your car, hear your car alarm and see no one around your car but perhaps the hood on your car is a jar, you discover someone has been in your car even if nothing is stolen-glove box may be open etc. call THE POLICE. 911 or 933-4444. 911 IS FOR A CRIME IN PROGRESS.

I Pity the Fool(s) on my block

I pity the fools as Mr. T says- on my block who know there is a crime problem on the block and do little or nothing about it.

Only I and a few others seem to have the the balls to follow through on calling police when there is a problem. I know this because I have checked out police open records for incidents.
My neighbors let themselves be intimidated by the ''usual suspects'' here and have taken a do nothing attitude.

This results in more problems with cars being tampered with, very blatent drug activity, youth problems, and other things I just do not have time to list.


So don't let yourself or your neighbors be a victim-take the tacks out of yours butts and the blinders off your eyes.
Don't drop the ball, make the call!!!!
You need to step up to the plate people and start to work with the authorites. There are ways to do this without being targeted by the bad guys and gals. The cops can tell you how but you have to call.

Regarding Crime and Cars

I do have to agree that there seems to be a high level of complacency on this end of the neighborhood.
Most people seem fed up and talk amongst themselves about what's happenong here but not many are willing to take it to the authorities for what ever the reason. Only a few will have actually called the police.
I over heard a conversation on a bus coming home between some teens who were talking about being able to get away with stuff ''down the hill in Piggsville''. It appeared they were on the way to ''friends'' house here but it was hard to hear all the conversation or get a good look at any one in that it was after school time and the bus was really full.
