City of Bellemeade

Seems to be an increase in car break ins. I would support the hiring of an off duty police officer to patrol our city and bring an end to these crimes. Once an area is tagged as an easy hit the crime rate grows and this seems to be happening here. Regular cruiser patrol can help but appeartenly these crooks know how to avoid being caught. I would like to see other suggestions on how we can clean up this crime wave, it's not going to just go away.

Very valid comments.  There is no way to know what our mayor and city commission would be receptive to since they do not post on this site and have the "new" site which does not allow citizen comment.  They meet once a month, but a lot of crime can occur in 30 days.  Does Bellemeade even have the funds to pay an officer?

People wpuld do well to not leave valuables in their vehivles; maybe that would help.  Is there any way Neighborhood Watch could help?  People could help Neighborhood Watch if more residents participated maybe.

You made the comment about an area being tagged as an easy hit.  You are so right and give this some thought:  the person or persons who post on the about us sections of this site and the new city website made Bellemeade, especially parts of it, an even bigger target by posting things like how many people 65 or above live alone, what the income level is, and other demographic facts from which aspiring criminals can determine that Bellemeade is or is not a good area to hit.  Why not just put up a sign that says, "hey, I am 92 years old, live alone, and got some jewelery dating way back to the 1930s.  I am gone to the grocery on the day they have senior citizen discounts." 

We should be doing everything we can to deter crime, should we not?  Yes, I know all of that stuff is a matter of public record in census reports, but at least the crmeys would have to research more tha one places to find it - don't make it easy for them.  Why is it necessary to post that information in the first place?

I agree with everything posted about crime  and the new website gives TOO MUCH information.  I don't like the new website...this one is fine with me.
