Somebody Run for Assessor
There's an Assessor's seat coming up for reelection. Somebody run and unseat the incumbent. They have certainly shown their not so friendly residential scorn of the past 5 years. Odd, how they call it the Assessor's Office when they act more like the Town Department of Revenue. Somebody please get a case of civics and run for Assessor. The Town needs you. Don't Finger Assessors Alone..
Don't forget, folks, that the Assessors only impose the valuations on the property you own calculating the tax rate the Selectmen vote, not the Assessors. The Assessors could be more helpful to the cause if they adopted a partial tax assessment on properties at least 50% completed by June 30th. Nowadays and for many years past, Assessors only assessed a value on new construction (new buildings, new additions, upgrades etc) when that property is completed and ''on line'' come January lst. If a building such as the proverbial Hooters site is at least 50% completed (but still unnoccupied and no progress towards same), that property and building goes without any taxable income to the Town. The developer (um, FX) is in no rush for sure. He started that project about five or six years ago and we in this town haven't received any taxes on that unnoccupied/unused site for that same period of time. Assessors believe a 50% completion by June 30th to derive new income for the town is ''too complicated'' to undertake. Well, Patriot Properties does most of their work anyhow, so why would it be so complicated? Anyone got that answer? By Randy |

VOTE YES ON 2 AND 1/2
It is your right to vote any way you wish. I for one, want a better town, want to preserve the town we live in, want better roads, better schools, a pool (how about paying for so called ''experts'' approx $10K - talk about a waste of money), I also want a better form of Government in the Town. I grew up here and I have lived else where as well. Braintree is overall a good town that needs some help. Face it, the town did have state funded cuts over the last two years which have hurt the Town tremendously. My family and I, too, are feeling the financial crunch from living in the Northeast - it's not just in Braintree. But, I want to be sure I protect the values of real estate and protect the reputation of the schools. Who wants to move here if our roads are so bad and the schools stink??? So I will vote for a 2 and 1/2 override. |
