This isn't a bitch about the men and women who work the equipment to clean our streets, but to the management team who oversee these hard working men and women. I am predicting that this storm from yesterday through tonight will top out at $100,000 costing us taxpayers. I've seen trucks spreading salt on the roads yesterday that were bare as bones early afternoon? I've seen trailer trucks with salt being delivered to the highway department lined up so we can spread more and more and at what cost?
I would guess from seeing myself that at a minimum, 20 or so private contractors were being employed for this recent blizzard? How close am I?
It's true that the town can deficit expend on snow removal this budget year (blank check, folks, in the eyes of our managers I guess), but overkill on snow removal for an insignificant storm at a cost that I am predicting will exceed $100,000 makes me wonder what a real storm would cost us taxpayers? Let's be efficient, but frugal is my message.
