Our DPW is on paper a DPW, but level of services hasn't improved one iota, has it? Are your streets cleaner after a storm? This consent decree imposed by the state - screw the state to cause five new employees at Water & Sewer. I called the Highway Department Sunday night to speak with our DPW Director McMahon. I was told he wasn't in town. Of course not. He lives in Concord. He could care less how we're cleaning the streets or spending our taxpayer dollars in hiring private contractors? We have a DPW Director who appoints an unqualified person to run the Water & Sewer Department ''under his engineering degree'' and now he appoints a Town OFficial as second in command in that department who will have three years to get the proper credentials for that job. We had a managers salary survey performed a few years ago and one decision reached was when the incumbent Town Accountant left his job, that position would be downgraded five slots, but when our Town Accountant was thrown out of his job for his indescretionary actions, we hire a new Town Accountant at the same top salary level? We hired a finance director and we're in what is obvious to us all miserable financial shape in town since his arrival? Coincidence or not, it ain't working with these two heavily recommended new positions created in past three years. Hmm, wasn't it the municipal financial genius incumbent Executive Secretary who was hired to help Braintree over these bumps in the road we're experiencing? Get rid of her. Get rid of DPW Director and we don't need a finance director if he can't control all of the financial departments including missing in action Town Treasurer, Town Collector and Assessors to boot. He's become nothing more than a Finance Committee personal department head official.
That's a quarter of a million dollars right there we could save for what we're getting in return. Enough is enough. Rebellion time? Where's the Tea I want to throw into the Monatiquot?
