Town of Braintree

Memo to Joe Hubbard

Posted in: Braintree
Stop patting yourself on the back as some courageous hero in Braintree. You are quoted as saying: ''We need to stop looking at overrides as an ugly little word and stop being afraid to put our financial house in order.''

You also said: ''I understand this is an unpopular stance. I know people don't like to hear this, but these are the facts.''

Face it Joe. This isn't the big deal you make it out to be. First of all, we've had these questions for nearly six years. If you want to impress me with ''unpopular stances'' then start making cuts to the budget as you and your fellow politicians have been threatening for years.

Courage isn't threatening to raise people's taxes and threaten massive problems if taxes aren't raised. Courage is realizing you arent' getting the money you want and making the hard choices without more money.

So don't pass yourself off as some martyr for the cause of good government, you're just another in a long line of ''boys crying wolf''. Act like a leader and make some budget cuts.

Then we'll talk about unpopular stances.

Memo to Prize Committee

What do you think happened last year when 6 million dollars was cut from the budget? Every department had to let people go to address the shortfall.

If you know where there is fat in the budget, I wish you would tell us rather than do a hatchet job on Joe.

I've been in town over thirty years and cannot think of one project, other than the library and roadwork, that we have done to any of our buildings. I don;t see departments overflowing with people either. I bet you that we have less people working for the town today than we had twenty years ago.

Hey Donald

Come on now Joe, I mean Donald, the Ledger article makes it clear that this prop 2 1/2 override isnt about saving jobs, its about giving raises to those who have jobs.

That's a real poor way to run a government. Raise taxes to fund raises?! Where will it end? First teachers, then police, fire, BELD, library, etc. The list goes on.

Give me a break, Hubbard isn't standing up for saving jobs, he's giving out raises with money he doesn't have available to spend.

As for less people working for the town, I'm still waiting to see the ''economies of scale'' in our DPW department. That move didn't eliminate jobs, it created higher paying jobs!!!!!
