Where do you get your info? Do you know Tom? Well, I do and for your info he is takeing a cut in pay to become ops manager and that's $15,000 less than 73,000' you reported at the start of your post. As for qualifacations, the DPW Director believes he meets them and more, after interviewing the four candidates. Only two of his twenty four years of service he has given to the town gets credited to his pension that carries over to the town from the state.If this is the same Tom I know, he's got twelve to fifteen years to go before he's eligible to retire and the town could not be better off with someone like Tom. I wish him well and know he will represent the town well. By the way you should consider changing your name form ELF to TROAL it's a better fit.

My nickname is TROLL, the ELF and my information is accurate from what I have learned over the weekend including what you say about Tom Terrific, our BELD Chairman who led the way for staff BONUSES of our ratepaying receipts. Gee, wasn't Tom Terrific on the BOS when Sweeney was hired? Gee, wasn't Tom Terrific amuck with the Ethics Commission in the McGrath scam on us all? Taking a pay cut for a job he's probably gonna lose anyways due to DoRight Mitt and his boys working for the state highway department traveling all over Massachusetts on jobs. Now, roll out of bed to work and be Tom's go to guy. Then when McMahon flees, Tom replaces McMahon and Tom Reynolds replaces Whalen. Sooner than later is the word on that rumor as well. The M16 OpsManager job does pay $56K to $65K for now, but Whalen will have that modified within a year after seeing how terrific Tom's work performance will be. In the judgment of three people who's insights appear right on the mark here in town, Tom does not meet the job qualification requirements. It's all about state imposed consent decree that Braintree is spending millions of ratepayer dollars to correct for past year transgressions by the former Water & Sewer Commissioners.
Strange, the Quinn Bill discovery that will cost Braintree HUGE come next town meeting will make the teacher's contract pale in comparison when debate begins. Fur will be flying. School Committee members and administrators will be wearing flak jackets no different than Selectmen, Finance Committee members, Personnel gurus and police officers who attend town meeting for this unexpected costly windfall on us all. Others will be laid off as a result to balance our budget. Gloom in town as we near our new year!
