East Basketball Team

Posted in: Braintree
There's something wrong with the East Middle School basketball team - a disservice has been done to an 8th grader and we need to correct it NOW. An 8th grade student was not placed on this team - however there are 7th graders on this team. Basically, it really is not about the talent of the students, rather, it is about a right of passage. However, this young man is indeed very talented as attested to by his team mates on other teams as wella s the parents who have watched him play over the years. How can any coach pass over an 8th grader, with talent, and place 7th graders on the team? The 7th grader will have their chance in a year when the 7th grader enters the 8th grade. COACH - if you read this you seriously need to reconsider your decision. Everyone in town is talking about this and are very upset about it as well as how upset the students (the passed over one as well as his friends)and the damage you can do to any child in this same situation. It is not right, it is not fair - the middle school basketball team is not about parents advocating for their kids to have a place on a particular team. Isn't it about fairness to the 8th graders by the teachers, coaches, and even principal? Mr. Connelly - you need to intercede and correct this wrong. This is not my child, however, I know a wrong when I see one and we need to put an end to this and advocate for this kid.

Children

Have you or the parents or the child talked to the coach or the principal about what has happened? There may be a good reason this child did not make the team.

If you have not done that I have a problem with you using this forum to try to correct a wrong. You have not given me enough information to indicate your post is anything other than sour grapes.

Whatever the reason, if the coach acted according to the rules and regulations he is suppose to adhere to then he did nothing wrong. Are 8th graders suppose to get preference over the younger children? If not maybe they should. Is the team a competitive team or a play for fun team?

In the end the 8th grade child that did not make the team still gets a chance to play on one of the Braintree Youth Basketball teams.

Life is full of disappointments

Having been involved in coaching for over twenty years I know how difficult it is to select a team of 10 or 12 players from a pool of 30 or 40. There is always someone who feels slighted.

At the junior high level they still have the opportunity to work on their game in BYB and then try out again at the High School. There are many cases where boys and girls have blossomed as juniors and even seniors in HS. I am sure the JHS coach will be very happy to explain where the player has to improve his game.

If True

If all you say is true & acccurate, then once again you will find politics
involved. Talk to Mr. Connolly, a real
straight shooter, but a member of the
teaching fraternity, see what he can do.
Whatever you do don't waste your time with Tricomi. Waste of time.
Good luck to the lad. And what a cop out saying he still more years in school to make a team. This situation
smells.
