My Premise Misunderstood!
My premise is that the school committee should get out of the landlord business, transfer each of these three buildings to the Selectmen as surplus properties no longer used as school houses for the town and then at public auction, bids are taken to sell the properties. Proceeds could be used by the town to bail us out of this logjam of underfunded capital improvements - and not all for the schools I might add. People don't understand that once a school house is abandoned as a public school (and rented or mothballed), before it could again reopen as a public school, it must be renovated up to state school standards - huge costs with new wiring, roofs, heating and ventilation, plumbing etc. Sell the damm unused properties instead of renting them because the School Committee shouldn't be in the landlord business as they have been for 26 years at the Foster School! Instead, they are renting school properties and using the income collected (bargain rates I might add) to offset some of their school operations expenses - a hidden revenue resource for the school department!
