Town of Braintree

SnowPileCrews

Posted in: Braintree
Beginning tonight, our tax dollars at work with trucks, loaders, bobcats, trucks, loaders galore will invade our business centers in South Braintree, Braintree and Weymouth Landing. The huge piles of snow will be removed in another all night clean up effort. I'd like to ask why at night with everyone on premium overtime bucks in a snowremoval budget already in the red? Wouldn't it be far cheaper to close off Washington Street for 4 hours in day time with cop on each end and do the work when the sun is shining? That's two people on overtime instead of about 45 people? So, merchants will scream they can't do business with street closed temporarily. Screamers should be held responsible for not cleaning their own sidewalks in the first place.
This effort will run close to six digits before all is said and done. Besides, our employees will all take tomorrow off and go home and sleep off an all nighter earning overtime? What is the town gaining? Must be a better way.

Let's wait until Spring ....

I agree 100% as I am sure most taxpayers do too. Why is it that Braintree is just getting around to snow removal? Why do it after 3 days of 35 degrees with forecast for more melting? Surrounding towns of Holbrook, Abington, Rockland, Hanover, Weymouth all had sidewalks done and snow removed from squares last week -- during the DAY. Why is Braintree once again so behind the times? I witnessed a four man crew attempt to plow sidewalks on Washington Street this past weekend. It was embarrassing -- it was clear that they did not have a plan of attak and were making more of a mess than anything.

Common Cent$ tells me..

that it will be easier to do it at night and much more will get done with less cars parked in spots and less on the road...call me crazy but...
Sent Home Early? With Pay?

At quarter of two this afternoon, I visited the parks department to sign my kid up for softball. Passing the highway department, I found it odd that there were no employees cars in front or to the side of their garage? Could it be that our highway superintednents sent all the guys home early today to get some sleep (hmm, sure)before they return for tonight's overtime paid snow removal? Send them home early with pay a couple of hours and bring them back for all night gig? Who's making these expensive decisions?
