Park Improvements on Hold

Posted in: Sunnyhills
In 1998 we got the section between Jacklin and Russell landscaped and done. In 1999 we got the Robert Picot park opened up and in 2002 we had the grand reopening of our renovated park AL Augustine.

But there has always been one small section that keeps getting put off and now is almost dead.

The space between Coelho and Washington, that part that goes behind the houses along Rodgers was supposed to be completed along with Pecot Park--which also got delayed for a few years-long story--back in 1996, but it got pushed off. Then it was supposed to be done along with the Jacklin section, but at that time there was talk of creating parking along Escuela Parkway and doing it as part of that project. Then it was supposed to be done along wiht the Al Augustine Park project but then we were told the permits had not been assigned.

All along we were told over and over by city staff that the project was approved when we first stormed city hall in 95 and that the money was in the CIP budget and just needed to get spent. All ready approved and already spent. Now we are told as part of budget cutbacks that this project has been defunded and to get it back into the CIP budget we basically have to start over from stratch.
