Ozzie Davis - Consummate Actor and Committed Civil Rights Advocate
February 4, 2005 · Actor and civil rights activist Ossie Davis has died at the age of 87.
Davis wrote, directed and produced for the theater and Hollywood.
A familiar face on stage and screen -- as well as the front lines of the fight against racial injustice.
Davis was working on location in Miami, Fla. making a new film, Retirement. The 87-year-old actor and his wife, Ruby Dee, also worked to fight racial discrimination.

They also talk about the 1959 Broadway production of A Raisin in the Sun, and their appearances in Spike Lee's movies Do the Right Thing and Jungle Fever. Davis and Dee say they'll be honored Sunday night to receive the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.
