I, too, think this would be a splendid idea and far better as far as security goes compared to the 'hidden' cameras. I would be willing to pony up a reasonable sum each year toward upkeep if we did in fact erect a gated community to keep out the riffraff, the peddlers, potential thieves doing reconnaissance on the neighborhood, and the non-residents cutting through our community at high speeds.
Speaking of high-speed traffic, the new Texas Motor Speedways known as Green River Trail and Lake Louise really ought to have speed bumps installed or we ought to ask our neighborhood patrol officers to start running radar traps during morning and evening rush hour periods. People are flying through these streets upwards of 45-50 miles per hour and endangering neighbors on foot as well as other drivers.
