IN OUR PAST HISTORY, WE HAVE STUDIED THE GATED COMMUNITY CONCEPT.  AT THAT TIME, WE DID NOT PURSUE THIS CONCEPT.  THERE ARE SOME CITIZENS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN STUDYING THIS CONCEPT AGAIN. 

 

WHAT DO OTHER CITIZENS FEEL ABOUT THIS ISSUE?  WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT SOME GENERAL FEELINGS ARE ON THIS ISSUE. 

 

This sounds like a splendid idea.  I think the big drawback is that maintenance and repair of the streets (the paving) has to be paid for by the residents, rather than the city.  For that reason, you sometimes see roads in disrepair in gated communities.  Take a look at the one on the north side of Randol Mill just west of 820.  (I can't remember the name; it's the one to the north across the street from Woodhaven.)  I drove through there a few years ago and the streets were in horrible condition.

I, too, think this would be a splendid idea and far better as far as security goes compared to the 'hidden' cameras.  I would be willing to pony up a reasonable sum each year toward upkeep if we did in fact erect a gated community to keep out the riffraff, the peddlers, potential thieves doing reconnaissance on the neighborhood, and the non-residents cutting through our community at high speeds.

 

Speaking of high-speed traffic, the new Texas Motor Speedways known as Green River Trail and Lake Louise really ought to have speed bumps installed or we ought to ask our neighborhood patrol officers to start running radar traps during morning and evening rush hour periods.  People are flying through these streets upwards of 45-50 miles per hour and endangering neighbors on foot as well as other drivers.

The WLH street maintenance expense argument is a bit shallow, because the streets are seldom torn up except by the water department when a water main breaks.  The streets require no true ongoing maintenance and are well-constructed in this neighborhood.  I can't speak for newly built 'subdivisions' with 25% brick/75% cement board, because if the streets are constructed as shoddily as the houses are, then there is cause for concern.
