By this wed I should have finalized details....The dumpster should be centrally located, like maybe the school parking lot, or in that area, and I think meeting there would be a good idea.

Well I have been somewhat following along with all the postings here. I do have a suggestion, since the weeds will come back and soon, after this months community weeding efferts. Why not collect up some donations of funds and then drop a gallon of Weed Be Gone, Round Up or what ever works and leave this at the front door, if no one answers. Along with a note asking to please use when you see weeds in your front yard. This will give no excuse to anyone not keeping up with there weeds. They will get all the weeds removed for free and all they need to do is maintain it with the free gallon of weed killer. I know this will not work for the investment properties, but I bet a next door neighbor would not mind holding on to it and hitting the weeds with the free gallon. This certainly will be much cheaper than $400.00 a house that the landscapers charge. Oh I also wanted to mention, and someone please correct me if I am wrong, people that own corner lot homes, remember YOUR responsible for the side area too. The area that is next to the sidewalk or street, on the outside of the block wall. This is not community property. Like I said before, please correct me if I am wrong on this. But I belive I am right. I see many yards with the front only having 2 to 10 weeds and then you turn the corner and the whole 2 feet to the block wall is solid weeds. On a different note, I keep hearing that it would cost the HOA more money to take these people to court than what they would recover. If this is small claims court (up to I think it is $2,500.00 now) the court fees (usally $15.00) are recoved in the suit as well. You can not have an attorney in Small Claims, so all we would need is a representive of the HOA ..... ahhhh isn't that Kachina ??????? So for the people that are not paying there HOA fees, I would like to see anyone that is 2 payments behind, post there names on the mailing that Kachina sends out quarterly. If you get the fees paid up before it goes to print, your name comes off the list. I know it is not as bad as child support, but does anyone remember when the papers were allowed to post the names of dead beat dads/moms on child support, wow did those back child support payments get paid FAST. Well thats my opinion, I hope to see a great turnout for the weed roundup at the end of the month. |

Yes bg in Castlegate you are right that the side property is also the responsibility of the homeowner (good reason i didn't want a corner lot LoL). We have that same problem, there are a TON of weeds by our mailbox yet the person's yard itself isn't bad so very good point.
Also if people are willing to pitch in for a weed killer, why not do something that prevents them like Weed Prevent by Miracle Grow which is a GREAT product and would probably work for 2 properties with 1 container and I believe it's around $10 per container at Home Depot. It may be cheaper in the long run as if the yard gets cleaned up and a prevention product put down it should keep it good for the rest of the summer. |

I suggested pitching in for weed killer when this issue first came up. Pulling weeds just on vacant homes is going to be a discouraging task to say the least. On the other hand maybe I am under estimating the impact that a community can have when it comes together to resolve an issue.
