The assessments homeowners pay in Castlegate are for our community. I am all for community volunteerism, but as a homeowner, I don't want to see my money go outside this community. That's why I pay taxes. As a board member, I have a fiduciary duty, as do the rest of the board, to our homeowners to ensure the assessments are used to maintain and improve our community wisely. Should you have issue with County property, I suggest you call Pinal County and take it up with them.
The flag at Schnepf and Ocotillo is not the HOA's. Providence is responsible for them. The management company does call them periodically when the flags are too tattered and need to be replaced.
As far as the "rules" go...Really, are they that difficult to follow? How hard is it to pull your cans behind the gate or in the garage? How much time does it take to pull weeds? Why is it such an issue to not park on the street? Are they so unbearable that its causing great stress or harm in your life? The board did not write the CC&Rs. They are created by the developers for the purpose of controlling the appearance and managing any common-area assets during the sales period. When it is built out at a certain point it is turned over to the community. There is no choice but to enforce them. You and I and everyone else has a choice to not live in an HOA. There are plenty of places they don't have them, but you did make that choice. So, when we all made that choice we agree to follow the rules. You may not like them or agree with them but they aren't going away. You did have a choice when your ballot was sent for the annual meeting. There were issues to be voted on that would have changed the trash can "rule". Again and again, people choose to put their heads in the sand and continue to complain about them. As far as money being wasted with regard to the mailings, its mandated by the CC&R's that ballots are sent to homeowners for the annual meeting or a special meeting requiring a vote. There is no choice. You are entitled to see the financials anytime you'd like, so you can see where your money and mine go every month. You can get the from the mycastlegatehome.com website or by calling Oasis.
While you and others think of the board of directors as a de facto fascist government, you couldn't be farther from the truth. The majority of time they are comprised of people who really care about where they live, take pride in their community and want to ensure a good quality of life for themselves and their families. I'm not saying that in some HOA's there aren't people who have a different agenda. I'm sure there are. However, you will not find that with homeowners who've been on the board for the past year or so.
I'm a big believer in not coming to the table without a solution to the problem. That being said, if you or anyone else have positive ideas or something to say, why not come to a meeting ? We really aren't the bad guys that everyone wants to believe. We have an agenda for every meeting, homeowners have a designated time to speak their mind; and while they might not be the most exciting meetings, you can see for yourself what is being accomplished to keep Castlegate a great community for everyone. The board members are homeowners too and we choose to volunteer our time and a considerable effort for the betterment of Castlegate and its residents. You can choose whether to be involved positively or not.
Hope to see you at the December meeting!
