Hello from OTANA! We hope that everyone is not too inconvenienced by the street improvements in our neighborhood. Thank you to all who signed the petition that went to public works and resulted in much needed improvements to our streets.
We had our 7th Annual Cleanup Sept 10th. We netted 14 tons of junk and 65 tires from the neighborhood! Thank you for everyone’s help.

Oct 4th is NATIONAL NIGHT OUT. There is an event for our neighborhood at Thomas Elementary @1240 Lakeside Dr. at 6pm that evening by Abilene Police Dept. Wear your OTANA-t-shirt and show pride in our neighborhood!. Lt. Gary Bone is our Geo Commander. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to: Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs, Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back!
Oct. 6 - 8 Fall Clean and Tire Amnesty Days
ABILENE, Texas– Clear out unwanted items from your property and recycle them during the upcoming Fall Clean and Tire Amnesty Days. During this annual event, citizens have a chance to spruce up their homes and properties while conveniently dropping off their cast-off items at the City of Abilene’s EnvironmentalRecyclingCenter(ERC), 2209 Oak St. The event will take place Thursday, Oct. 6 through Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Due to safety concerns, Oak St. will turn into a one-way street with vehicles entering from South 25thSt., on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Citizens will be asked to assist in off-loading their own items.
At this year’s Fall Clean, citizens may bring up to eight (8) passenger tires without rims, free of charge with proof of residency (current water bill). Truck tires without rims are $6 per tire and with rims $8 per tire. Agricultural tires will be accepted without rims only for a $35 per tire service fee. No commercial or business tires will be accepted.

OCT 31stShiningStarFellowshipChurch (301 Palm) is hosting a Trunk or Treat. Please plan on bringing your car & participating to give our kids a safe place to trick or treat that evening. It’ll be from 7-9 in their parking lot. Bring your car, (decorated if possible), candy and chairs to sit in.
