Spring Cleanup

Sep 20, 2005

You asked; We listened; You came!

May 21st at 7 a.m. the two 40 ton Curbside Roll-Off Inc. dumpsters had already been delivered to East Ohio Place and board members were discussing if the placement of the dumpsters would deter members from using them. Fortunately we were very wrong. Members brought their household articles and landscaping materials by jeep, trucks (including rentals), trailers, cars, wheel barrow, and by hand to fill up the dumpsters by noon. Neighbors brought to the dumpsters furniture, doors, metal railings, lawn mowers, fence and decking materials, railroad ties, junipers, Russian olives, and other plant material, along with bicycles and many miscellaneous goods to be sent to the landfill. In total you brought to the dumpsters about 6 tons of materials. Your response showed the board that your request for this annual event should continue. A special thanks for members who gave a donation to help defray the cost of the dumpsters.

Take Pride in America and Aurora was another
important project that had Gateway High School ROTC students along with other neighborhood volunteers taking time to clean up the Tollgate Creek and paths between Mississippi and Alameda. The City?’s Utilities Department supplied bags and pickers for the volunteers while Mike Kowalcyzk, a resident and City employee, collected the trash bags for disposal. Volunteers also spent time working on the Alameda and Kalispell entrance, parks and Tollgate Elementary School grounds.

What a difference these hard working individuals made to help make our neighborhood more ascetically pleasing.
