Loose Dogs

Posted in: Colonial Acres
The dogs belonging to the residents of 1434 Ivy continue to be on the loose.
These dogs 1 black 1 brown chase anyone walking in the neighborhood, or kids riding their bikes, or dogs that are in their fenced yards. It causes alot of noise and they leave their ''dirty business'' in our yards.
I have complained about this before, but these residents seem to be able to just let their dogs roam free whenever they want.
Can't we do anything about this?
Re.Loose Dogs

I own 3 inside dogs, who are let out in the back yard, and if they even start barking, I'm back there to shut them up so they don't bother neighbors. I love animals, and don't want to see any of them harmed. However, it sounds like the homeowners don't care about their own dogs, let alone their neighbors if they allow their pets to roam and chase. I don't know what you mean when you say you have complained before - complained to whom? Just you or you and your neighbors? My first suggestion is to try and talk to the careless neighbor. If you're not comfortable in doing that alone, do so with another neighbor. If the careless neighbor is not responsive, discuss it with your other neighbors. There is power in numbers. If the problem continues, I would go two routes. One is Memphis Animal Services at 362-5310. They promote responsible animal ownership and handle complaints regarding dogs, loose animals, etc. The other is to call the East Precinct of the MPD at 795-3131. They may refer you to Animal Services, but they may log the complaint and follow up on it themselves. I love my dogs, but I also respect my neighbors and their right to not be subjected to annoyance and danger. Neighbors should band together to ensure that Colonial Acres is a peaceful, safe, and desirable neighborhood for all of us to live in. Good luck, and keep us posted.

The Colonial Acres Neighborhood Association is the place for neighborly neighbors to band together. Please join and ask your neighbors to join to add members to increase the CANA power.

Thanks for the compliment, but

...as important as dues are to CANA, I think the more important issue is that our neighbors who ask for help or advice get what they ask for in this forum. They should be encouraged to know their neighbors, talk to their neighbors, and band with their neighbors. CANA is a good association, but folks can't be encouraged to pay annual dues (albeit $10) without the more important support, communication, and encouragement that should bond our great neighborhood. The request to encourage everyone to pay their dues to CANA is admirable, but should not be one of the few responses that a neighbor seeking advice receives when posting a problem that is important to them on this website. The responses should be abundant and should offer several avenues of help for those of our neighbors who ask for it.
