Colonial Acres

Overgrown Lawns

Posted in: Colonial Acres

Ok, so I'm not the Pot calling the Kettle black, even my lawn gets missed over some, occasionally goes 2 weeks between mowings, and the yucky weeds get taller and noticeable above the grass....

But, I see so many houses while driving around our neighborhood that are terribly neglected.  The house at Leatherwood and Perkins on the southeast corner is lucky if it gets mowed twice during the entire summer.  The house at Colonial and Quince on the northwest corner is always overgrown.  I see children's play equipment in the backyard, but I would feel sorry for any child that had to play in there.

These yards breed an overabundance of bugs, plant diseases, not to mention providing a safe hiding place for the rats everyone has been spotting.

I understand not having funds to finish projects needing to be done, Lord knows my outside paint started peeling and I haven't fixed it yet (although I'm really excited we just decided on a color!)  But just being Lazy and having no sense of pride in your property is a different story.  Shame on these people!

I agree.

If the grass/weeds are over a foot tall, they are in violation of city codes and you should report them over and over until the city cuts the lawn.  The home owner will receive the bill.

If it's the house I', thinking of, the elderly gentleman who lived in the house passed away. I'm not sure if his surviving family members are in physically able to mow the yard. I'm sure any community assistance to this family would be welcome.

I am getting tired of people complaining about overgrown lawns.  If it is close to you and bugs you SO much,  offer to cut it next time you cut your own.

I told my elderly neighbor I would cut his lawn because I was trying to get more exercise. It saved him any embarassment and only takes me 10 more minutes.

Now I cut that yard every time I cut mine but if gas goes up much more you may see a goat tied up in our front yards....haha    (kidding)

Deal with your close neighbors,  you cant control the whole street.
