When did the "yard of the month" cease?

Who used to judge?

I think this practice should be started again.  It fosters a sense of pride in your property and engages our community in friendly competition.

Any one else have any ideas on this?

I don't know who did it last but I did it many years ago and even painted a big white sign with tulips on the bottom of it for the winning yard.  I took hundreds of pictures of houses too. I wonder if that sign still exist and where it might be.  We later created other signs for each Section of the association.  So that sign should probably be for "Green A" now.

We even had a Christmas lighting contest that was judged by the children twelve years old and younger.  It was a lot of fun.  The winner got $25 and carolers at the door.

When I was getting into the neighbor association scene the funds were so low that I planted many, many pota of hosta and monkey grass and sold it making about $265 for the neighborhood association's treasury.

I also created and ran an independent Colonial Acres Website, and the database with some 3892 names, addresses and phone numbers and ran the Phonetree which announced the meetings and other important news to each home.

All this was back in the nineties before my husband died.  I've been thinking about getting involved again.

I wonder who took over alot of these jobs.

We are in process of building back the block captains/zone chairs.  One of the duties of zone chairs is the yard of the month.
