The CSTNA would like to share reviews and recommendations for contractors and service providers that you have personal experience with. Know a really good plumber or electrician -- or maybe someone we should all avoid? Post the information here -- and please be fair and only from your own experience.

I had a bad experience with G Fedale Roofing.  The estimate was to replace and paint the 9 foot roof on my dormer.  The work they performed was to replace the roof paper and patch a hole.  I could see what appeared to be hardened glue dripping through the holes in the plywood roof.  I called to inform the office the work was incomplete.  They sent a crew for a second visit.  They cut out the 12 inch wide rotted portion and replaced the ply wood and roof paper.  They spray painted the wood.  No invoice was sent.  However, they sent a late notice informing me payment was over due and they would charge interest.  I called the office upon receipt of the warning notice and sent a letter documenting the discepancies between the estimate and the work.  I received a visit during which I explained (again) the services rendered were not what was described on the invoice.  The G Fedale representative became irate and yelled during which he threatened to send the matter to a collection agency and attach 23% interest.  I found the work to be poor quality and behavior unprofessional.

Just moved in and I'm trying to figure out who's good to use:

For electrical work, T.A. Rietdorf has done a good job with a tough 18' ceiling installation.  I would avoid RMV.

For plumbing I use Hartnett (family friend).

For tree service I used Strobert, which was ok, but Cheetah has quoted me a much better price on new work.

For gutters Kevin Konitzer did a good job.

I am trying to find a good mason: currently considering David Elliott, Borsello, or Gerber

For roofing, I am working on a project with Wertz.

And for fencing I would like to send business through Anchor Fence Co., but the other projects are taking priority.

I recall a message about referrals for CSTNA members looking for reliable contractors or maybe a database for them. We have had work done that we are very happy with and would like to share the name and contact information for the contractor. She is local, a woman running what has been thought of as a man's profession, but most of all she is reasonable in price, reliable, and willing to work with you on what you could do and what you need her company to do. Her estimates are sent in a clear spreadsheet via email.
