10/3/99 Broomfield Problem

I've done some checking regarding your question about salaries for Mayor and Council not being in the feasibility study. Here's what I found. The City's budget already covers this cost. Their salaries will not change or increase with the City & County of Broomfield.
You indicated that you would like to see the jail building used as a home for the disabled. You don't think there would be all sorts of opposition to that? Guess again! We would hear outcries of how a home for the disabled would reduce property values and bring undesired elements into the area.
Another subject: you indicated that revenge never served anyone. Yet, this is exactly what CVELG wants and is pursuing with your assistance. I read what you and others say that this is no longer about the jail,it is about what is ethical. Then, one of CVELG's leaders says if Broomfield no longer has county status, there will be no need for a Broomfield jail. People see through this double talk.
For anyone to say that Broomfield's elected officials are not ethical is a lie. You may disagree with their policies and decisions - that's fine. But these people are highly ethical and are doing a great job for Broomfield.

City vs County

So your city attorney wrote the ballot initiative... what happened to this being a citizen led initiative?

I suspect County Attorneys earn a higher salary than City Attorneys, don't you?

Answer this: the FIRST feasability study pointed to higher taxes for Broomfield citizens.

It was NOT in the best interest of the citizens, yet that study was kept quiet and more taxpayer dollars were spent with a 'revision'.

And, no way were there 200 public meetings in an 8 week period. It was 8 weeks from the release of the 2nd feasability study to your visits with the State Legislative Council. 200 PUBLIC meetings in 56 days? IMPOSSIBLE!

Larry?

Keep patting yourself on the back Larry.

Ever hear of CONFLICT OF INTEREST?

Create a county & appoint yourselves to higher paying commissioner positions.

Conflict of interest. Elected officials were not put in office to line their own pockets at the expense of citizens and to benefit powerful corporations.

No one disputes the fact the jail issue was the catalyst to our involvement. Keep harping on the jail. Citizens of the great state of Colorado will see through your attempt to re-direct their focus.

The focus, in our opinion, is most definitely unethical behavior by elected politicians. The jail is a done deal... but you keep harping on it.

Welcome Back

Glad to see (read) you back! And your post is good.

I don't have much time to write, now. But I want to discuss some of your points. I have been x-scribing the legislative audio tapes and personally believe that information was misrepresented in those meetings. But I am definately open for discussion on the specifics - I know better than anyone that I don't have all the information.

And I AM concerned about the fiscal impact of what we do. I/We don't want to hurt anyone financially or personally. If there is some way we can do this (Repeal) and avoid fiscal impact - that would be our FIRST CHOICE.
