You are clearly confused!

For the record, CVELG is NOT working against the will of Broomfield citizens. Broomfield citizens voted by only a small margin to simply CONSIDER becoming a combined city and county. And they were not made aware of the true effects of this action nor the significant hidden agendas behind it. Since then, I can not begin to estimate the number of Broomfield residents who have told us that they are no longer in favor of the county status now that they have done some of their own research. If you are so confident that Broomfield officials are acting in accordance with the wishes of Broomfield citizens, then hold another vote with the question, "Shall Broomfield become a combined city and county?" This has little room for misunderstanding. It is not carefully worded to allow Broomfield officials to use the results as they please. This would leave little doubt in my mind what the citizens of Broomfield want. After dealing with the Broomfield city council and other officials over the last year, I am certain this is exactly what they want to avoid.

Additionally, if Broomfield officials were so valiant, courageous, and righteous, why was the entire process of forming the combined city and county kept so quiet until the campaign? You say that hundreds of public meetings were held and we have challenged that statement. It is interesting that no one from Broomfield can document those meetings with the exception of a few lengthy council meetings that ran into the early morning hours. You can not deny that if this process had been so ideal, it would have been publicized and praised. It was not. It was hidden until it was too late for concerned citizens to act against it. That is not courageous government. That is frightening. I feel sorry for Broomfield residents.

Finally, how can you say with a clear conscience that what CVELG is doing is petty and wrong?!?!? We want only for Colorado voters to decide the fate of our great state knowing the TRUTH about the issue. That is democracy at its fundamental level. If we eventually vote to keep the city and county of Broomfield, then I welcome the decision of the people. But, I am confident that no rational person, knowing all the facts of this disturbing county endeavor, would vote again in favor of it. Colorado voters will not be fooled again.

Don't be so deceptive!.

Most of the events leading up to the campaign were indeed covered with Broomfield funds with officials acting as "private citizens" on official time using Broomfield resources.

For the actual campaign, your statement is true. This roughly $330,000 campaign was funded almost entirely (more than 97%) by corporations and land developers who no doubt want a return on their investment. Interlocken alone provided $200,000 in cash and even provided CBLG with a fully furnished and equipped office and interns to staff it for the duration of the campaign. These are facts from public records that Broomfield officials claimed to have made public, but did not acknowledge until AFTER they were presented at a recent city council meeting.

If the Broomfield city council is allowed to appoint themselves as the county commissioners, which is unconstitutional according to Article XIV, Section 6 of the Colorado Constitution, I am certain this return will become a reality. Control of zoning, property assessment, roads, building permits, etc. is exactly what these corporations and lands developers want. It is not at all what residents want and MOST CERTAINLY not what they were misled to believe they would get by voting for the county. It makes me sick to hear you say this was an effort for the citizens of Broomfield when it was not funded or conducted by any such citizens and that no one outside of Broomfield officials even took an active role in forming the county. No effort that has so many clear violations of the Colorado constitution is EVER good for the people it is meant to protect.

Hi Chris. I have no idea why BF officials declined the debate. I will try to find out for you. One reason could be that if they agreed to do so, it would give CVELG more importance than they want to you to have. This is just my opinion.
I will check with some of those who served on the Broomfield citizens' group that supported the city/county amendment and see what they think.

I agree with you regarding open space. As I've said before on this page, I am an open space advocate. I realize it is expensive for public entities to acquire lands for open space. But, I wonder if, in the long run, it may prove to be more cost effective than just letting acre after acre develop, then having to provide local government services for of these new developments.
I honestly do not think that Broomfield becoming a city and county added any fuel to the ongoing urbanization we are seeing. It seems that if Broomfield does not annex various lands, then Westminster does and vice versa. Or, some other city does. For example, Boulder County's Comprehensive Plan projected for public open space most of what is now the Rock Creek area in Superior. Broomfield and Louisville declined to annex this area. Then, Superior annexes it and approves large scale residential development. To do what I think we would all like to see may take some state laws by which all cities must abide.
