2 B More Informed

I'm speaking as an individual, here. Not everything I think (or say) is totally consistant with the thoughts of the rest of the CVELG core group. So others may chime in with a different twist on this.

Mostly, I think people who are affected by this issue have already gotten "more information" and by November of 2000 that will be even more true. I feel that reality will speak for itself. By then the costs of City/County may have doubled again, more folks may truely understand they don't have a consolidated school district, etc.

I don't have any delusions about convincing the rest of Colorado to care about something that doesn't affect them - not to a significant extent, anyway. And I have no desire to advertise them into voting a particular way (that's marketing, not truth telling). I'm guessing that their individual votes could go either way - 50/50 odds for each individual, and so collectively they will cancel themselves out. And it is the vote of people who DO care that will make the difference.

And actually, if the vote at that time indicates that the state (effectively, the people who DO care) wants the BF City/County - I accept that. I will feel comfortable that that vote reflects opinions based on more accurate information. I will even go so far as to say that if we do not get the required signatures, I will accept that it is not the will of enough people to make it happen and so it should not go to vote again.

But as I said earlier, other CVELG members may have perspectives different from mine on this subject. I hope they or anyone who has thoughts on this will post to add those thoughts.

Polling results

Results for the election in the four counties:

Boulder County 51,181 YES 44,248 NO. I wonder how many of those 6,933 voters who originally voted for the creation of BF were aware that Boulder County alone would lose over 7million in revenue streams from the creation of BF county?

Jefferson County 101,801 YES 58,089 NO. I wonder how many of these people have now changed their minds? Shall we say J---?, NW parkway?, ...

I will have to look for Adams and Weld but I have spoken to a few residents in both and they are terrified of becoming BF county. In fact, Westy is now using that fear to their advantage in annexation of Adams County...very interesting.

The issue only passed the state at 68% (Correct me if I am wrong here). Not a very large margin. I think it will be easy to enlighten people on the impact of this issue and give the state the opportunity to cast a more informed vote dont you?

Statewide, I dont have the breakdown but can easily get them...again, not a very large margin to sway.

??? for BBW

My understanding on the IGA is limited but how does the agreement work? How long is this particular IGA and when it expires who will get to vote on what to do with the land? Broomfield citizens/Boulder citizens? BF City/County and Boulder County? Cant this agreement be amended to be developed when the IGA expires?

Also, I had asked a question earlier-how will bf recoup its 10.5m it expends to build the J---?

Thanks.

Hi Linda. It's my understanding that the IGA between Boulder County and Broomfield is in perpetuity. Both entities wanted to see the subject lands acquired for public open space and are very protective of these open space areas. Boulder County purchased these lands for open space and gave Broomfield a conservation easement on all of these open space lands. Based on the ownership and conservation easements, these lands will remain as public open space.
Regarding the margin of victory in the 1998 statewide election, it is my understanding that, as far as elections go, the margin was significant. The City and County of Broomfield constitutional amendment passed with a greater margin of victory than any other measure on the 1998 statewide ballot.
