4 BBW - Yes vs No

BBW, you and I know we will not agree on these things, but we won?’t let that stop us from talking about it ?– right?

I'll admit up front that there are some aspects of the new city/county that appeal to me. But mostly, I believe that becoming a county was done to accommodate an agenda related to industrial development ?– an agenda I don?’t understand and am suspicious of. And I find the 10 points to be a list of consequential benefits rather than justification for forming a new Governmental Structure.

Certainly there are more efficient ways to address issues such as inadequate Human, Social, and Health dept services than to succeed from 4 counties and form a new one. Prior to the desire for a new county, did BF consider these services inadequate? Was anything else tried to improve these situations?

And I don?’t find some of these issues (such as election procedures, records, vehicle licensing) to be issues at all. They?’re once a year or less type things and won?’t be experienced much differently than before by any individual in the new County.

I am glad that you took the time to bring these issues up (the 10 points), they are important to what this is all about. And I am glad that Br Anon, Joan, Adrian, and others took the time to provide detailed responses to them for the newcomers to this issue. In Nov 98, BF voters felt these points to be valid justifications. If those voters still feel the same, BF will go on to become a City/County. But if they now feel differently (as I and a lot of people I know do), their new opinion can be voiced through this repeal effort.

4 BBW, And ...

You are absolutely right in saying there are few processes where there are no questions. Simply, you can't please all of the people all of the time. And I understand (now more than ever - because of what CVELG has been through) that the people who worked to promote the City/County worked very hard. I respect you each for what you achieved - it's no small thing to create a new county. I only wish I had paid more attention at the time (we could have argued in person) :-)

To All

I have read a lot of great discussions about the C/C and the NWP. I am asking everyone to put their thoughts on paper in the form of editorials. Call you senator, legislator, they are
easily located on Colorado's home page and usually have no idea what is going on, call them!

Oh, just thought I would ask this question to those so pro county. Do you realize that domestic violence is a very big social problem? Most counties will coordinate outsourcing programs with each other for abuse victims. The outsourcing is done to protect the victim from the abuser, which often means moving to a different county. BF social services will not outsource these victims, they believe in working with the family as a unit. Well, on the surface this sounds just marvy, but in reality, it is extremely dangerous. These women, children and sometimes men are severely beaten or worse killed. Golly gum tree, what planet are these officials on?

Of course if Broomfield would have held a public hearing then these types of situations could have been addressed! But no, council thinks they are "all knowing" or they are just to chicken to stand on their own feet!

Okay NWP - meeting Tuesday night 7:30 Lafayette Council Agenda (hey at least they are doing this!) Try to be there.
But call to check on time.

Also for those pro NWP - I hope that all of you supporting this monster also support the expansion of Lowell and Sheridan Blvd too. Oh, by the way, you will also enjoy paying taxes to fund these roads as the city typically pays for 1/3 of the cost. Well who pays for the other 2/3rds? Usually the developer, but they won't build it unless you can give them "x" number of houses to build so they can make money. Gee, does this mean we are paying for the road again? Nice little hidden costs!

Oh and finally, I didn't have to call the Boulder County Commissioners to find out if they supported the parkway. Bill Berens was paraphrased in the Boulder Daily Camera today that Boulder commissioners and Golden oppose the parkway! Wow, imagine that!

Interlocken and Boulder Cnty

If Broomfield County wasn't a glint in anyone's eye, wouldn't Interlocken have been smack dab in Boulder County?

For the Johns & BBWs who think I am coming up with preconceived notions here, let me state clearly this is merely a question. (They hate when we do this. Ask nosy questions.)

Boulder County has been against NWP. Interlocken would've been in Boulder County. Just SUPPOSE Interlocken gets a whif of county discussions in Broomfield. Being the astute businessman he is, Jim Long decides it will be in his favor to help create a county, with mucho dinero, and even throw in ONE MILLION pesos to "STUDY" the parkway.

I saw on the NWP board $900,000 has been spent by Broomfield in land acquisitions. ONE MILLION did seem like ALOT for just a study.

BFCC has tons of bucks to advertise heavily, the opposition has little funding, and the county issue squeaks thru.

BFCC can 'grow' to commissioner status, which must bring a bigger paycheck. County commissioner positions carry more weight than councilmen.
Berens is Pres. of NWP Authority. Higher political profile for him.

Interlocken gets a powerful government body to push thru the parkway.

Just a thought........
