Honesty

You (''honestly'')talk about consensus, majority-rule, fiscal responsibility, thorough research and all due consideration was given to the fountain project; well then, please publish or at least make a copy available for review, the names of the persons who served on the 'Fountain Committee' and the list of names of those homeowners who committed to the fountain installation. You know, the list you obtained polling the community to see who was and was not opposed to the fountain. You know, like was done for the playground. You know, the playground committee, who spent hours going door to door discussing the feasibility of a playground and the desire to have one in our community. Oh, but for the fountain, there wasn't committee and you don't have a list. I see...''consensus,'' ''majority-rule,'' ''all due consideration,'' ''thorough research'' and ''fiscal responsibility''--Honestly?

....so the expectation is that the few residents who DO take their valuable time to volunteer for the benefit of the entire neighborhood should now be required to spend even more time going door to door, having the same conversation with 168 individual households, and gathering notarized pledges of support? Better yet, since the Landscaping Committee has a least a dozen projects under evaluation at any given time, why don't we just set aside an hour or so every night for all of the 168 households to have a meeting to discuss each of the projects in sufficient detail to satisfy all 168 homes unanimously? (Meeting end time may need to be extended until we have a unanimous vote).

Hopefully, my sarcasm is not lost here...my point is that there is a very clear line of authority from the board to the committee (any committee). Checks and balances are (and always have been) in place to prevent ANY ill-considered recommendations. To insinuate that the Landscape Committee (and the board by association) is some sort of cloak-and-dagger, black-hat, beady-eyed group of co-conspirators who have no purpose in life other than to free-handedly spend HOA funds without regard to non-committee members' opinions is, quite simply, wrong.
At the HOA meeting in February, the Landscaping Committee will have a display of projects under evaluation in 2001/2002 and will have a form available for prioritization/comment from any homeowner who is willing to take a minute to fill it out. I sincerely hope that every person in attendance will do so.
If you feel that your opinion is not being considered in HOA decisions, you may want to consider joining one of the committees or running for the board in 2002.

Why the Personal Attacks?

Why the personal attacks? For gosh sakes, how can you say such mean-spirited things about people you don't even know, and with whom you have not spoken. And to do so anonymously!!!Please identify yourself and I'd be happy to get the date and time and location of the next Landscape Committee meeting to you so that you can express your anger to all of those folks who worked so hard on that project. As for the Board which approved it, our meetings have been noted on the website all year (the next one is Jan. 24) and you are welcome to attend that as well.
As for the Playground Committee, its chair (Lisa Fleckenstein) is a good friend of mine who has worked harder than you can imagine. When she is ready to make a proposal to the Board (which may even be at our next meeting), it will be considered thoroughly, just like every other request.
