The 4th Avenue Block Club was established on May 23, 1998. The Club was established to improve the quality of life in our neighborhood. the Club involves the 4100 and 4200 blocks of 4th Avenue. Meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month at 11:00 am. Each Christmas since its inception, the Club has furnished labor and decorations for the trees lining the streets; sent representaives to LAPD Community meetings and those of the Eighth District Empowerment Congress.
The Club has been instrumental in establishing a Safety Program at 42nd Street School to alleviate unsafe parking and congestion caused by parents and others droping off and picking up children before and after school. We tried unsuccessfully to obtain a crossing guard for the children. The Club participated in the Crenshaw Neighborhood Leadership Council Partnership Program, in association with Allstate Insurance, to obtain outside senor lights or gas shut-off safety valves for club members and area residents.
The Club has also been instrumental in assisting our LAPD Lead Officer in identifying and eliminating certain illegal activites in order to improve the quality of life in the neighorhood.
The Club has done the necessary paperwork and have been surveyed and is awaiting notification of determination to obtain speed humps in the area.
