Farley Neighborhood

Other side of the coin ( yard)

Posted in: Farley
I'm writting in response to all the postings regarding ''cleaning up''. I agree that we all should try to keep our property neat. All I have read though is ''call and report , I won't stand for it...'' Where is the compassion and concern for your neighbor? Have you asked why the yard is that way? Do they need help? Have they been sick? I am the other side of the coin... I have been sick, I am a single parent and I have had alot dumped on me in the 2yrs we have been here. I grew up here and love this neighborhood. If all we become concerned with is how the neighbors aren't keeping up with us then what kind of enviroment are we showing our kids. I am lucky I guess I have understanding neighbors, but that doesn't mean that I am not very embarrassed when I walk out back and see their neatly manicured lawns. They have not complained , some have even helped me. I just think we should be trying to give our neighbors a hand up and not jumping to the phone everytime we are offended. It is easier though to just pick up the phone and make a call and feel very rightous...but how would you feel if you went and helped that neighbor instead of passing the buck? Food for thought when you see those long weeds or unpleasant yard decore. I thought the people here were better than this.

Other Side of the Coin

Although you make a valid point about neighbors helping neighbors, it still becomes a problem when homes are not maintained according to city county codes. The fact that Farley is an older neighborhood (50+years old in the original portion) makes it a target for deterioration if we do not continue to be interested in the appearance and upkeep of our area. I don't think the first comment about poor home maintenance was meant to be mean spirited....I think it was a comment on the condition of several homes that are in need of attention for many reasons. If you feel it was directed at you personally, please understand that it probably was not.

If you need help, please call your neighbors and see if they can help or if they know someone who can recommend some help. If you are a senior citizen or a handicapped citizen, please reply to this comment for more information on help for those persons.
