Recently I have watched a new basketball goal being put up on Firman, 2 houses north of Carlsen. Not in their driveway, but on the street. It is a floresent pink goal and is 12 inches off the street. Not only is this dangerous for the players, because they have to play in the street, but it looks very tacky. This is a vey busy street! I have also noticed a portable goal, which has been in the street for a month now at Firman and 13th street. I thought we had some guidelines for our neighborhood? Or can we just do what we want now and to get the neighborhood looking like slumville? It is slowly looking down and going down hill. I have lived in Farley for 12 years and now I do not know if it is worth trying to do some upgrading of my property. Shame to see our neighborhood going downhill.

Children at play are welcome!
It is simply your opinion that the goal looks trashy. This hardly qualifies as a wholesale down fall of this beautiful neighborhood. This neighborhood does not have facilities for community play and all children play in the street whether they have a basketball goal or not. This person is not in violation of any laws.
You property is your business. That is always your choice to improve your home.

Warning...
Children at play may be welcome in Farley, but having a basketball goal by the street is against code. Homeowners are subject to a $2500 fine and confiscation of the goal if caught by the city.

Shame on you!
Having lived in this neighborhood for 12 years also, I would think that it would be obvious to you also, as to why the goal is on the street. Look at our drive, if it were level we could use it for b-ball, and if we had the $ for a concrete pad we would use it to fix the drive. Kids have been playing in the street since you were young, do you not recall your childhood? Did you not raise kids? We have spent a lot of time and money for our 14 yr old boy to have a sturdy, nice looking goal at home to shoot on. Dont like the orange? Well change it.How about the finishing pieces we haven't put up yet. It looks a lot better than the portable we had up and it got trashed by walk-by kids hanging on it! It also looks a lot better that tons of different items in this neighborhood. ie. mailboxes, colors of paint on houses... My kids have lived here all their lives and are well aware of how to respect traffic, which IS NOT busy here on Furman! There are plenty of additions that have places for kids to play and rules. Maybe instead of investing in your property you should move to one of those new neighborhoods and leave our Farley kids alone! I would think it would be perferred to have things for our kids to do rather be bored and get into trouble. The city has notified us of the rules. I ask of you to not call again and put your energy into real problems this neighborhood has! Shame to see you neighbors going downhill.
