NEAC Zoning meeting 9/17/02
1662-1664 Bryden Rd. Curtis Davis? is requesting a variance to permit his home business to continue (its been there since 1997) in his duplex on Bryden. He lives on one side and runs a security business in the other. No customers come to the house. The monitoring place is in Chicago. He has 2 employees who work there and 5 who work off-site. He has no signage (except the little one that says his company, Electric 1, protects his property.) He has parking for himself and the 2 onsite employees in his backyard. NEAC will do a site visit Saturday, September 28 in the morning. Check their website for exact times. I did not think much of this guy and his style of persuasion, but it does seem that this is a very non-invasive business.
484 Linwood. Request for demolition by CHP
CHP asked that the request be tabled until the next zoning meeting since they still do not have the plans for the replacement house.
999 Atcheson, The Neighborhood House. Request for some variances.
Moody-Nolan asked that the request be withdrawn since they figured out they weren?’t necessary.
1265 Hildreth. A Church (I didn?’t record the name) at the SW corner of Hildreth and Champion. Varience for parking and building setback.
They are planning to build a new front entryway on the front of the church and an additon at the back to hold offices and such. They also want to pave their parking lot (currently gravel) and put in a handicap ramp. The new front part will go over the setback. NEAC will do a site visit Saturday, September 28 in the morning. I think their new additions look fairly good, and a paved lot is better than a gravel lot. It is not a large lot (or a large church). The handicap ramp will stick out a lot and the current plan is to build it out of concrete with non-fancy handrails. I?’d like it if they could at least face it with stone or stucco to match the church.
33 Hamilton Park. TK holdings Limited partnership wants to continue (or renew) a parking variance, from the 5 required to 0. They want to convert the building to office space (it is currently 3 empty apartments). They are going to do interior stuff, but not much exterior (just a handicap ramp) and are dealing with HRC for that. The building is on the Historic Register. It was built as a single family house, and has a carriage house. The guy presenting said that there is plenty of onstreet parking, but that this house is owned by the same group that owns the Joint Implant group (on Broad) that has its parking lot adjoining to the south, so it could be used for parking. NEAC will do a site visit Saturday, September 28 in the morning. I̵ 7;d rather see the variance than have the carriage house torn down for parking. I don?’t see that block of Hamilton Park being more residential anytime soon.
