HISTORY
Firmly entrenched between a romantic past and the upscale present, the Gaslamp Quarter makes for a vibrant kind of magic. Most of the buildings date back at least 100 years, and a feast of Victorian craftsmanship awaits the appreciative eye. Artists create in newly renovated lofts that date back to the turn of the century and display their wares in the Quarter’s galleries. Tourists and locals share the same sidewalk that Wild West lawman Wyatt Earp walked when he operated three gambling halls in San Diego in the 1880s.

Infectious rhythms of hip hop, bee-bop, honky tonk, swing, country, jazz, rock and blues spill from open doorways throughout the Quarter. For sheer diversity of entertainment, you would be hard pressed to find a rival west of New Orleans.
There are twists and turns you won’t expect and wouldn’t even find on Bourbon Street. Pubs, clubs, theatres and cabarets: they are all here, in one dynamic spot known as The Gaslamp Quarter.
