Board Integrity

Let's remember that our board has had plenty of integrity in the past and have accomplished much that our membership and residents have appreciated. The more I discuss the CVS issues with people, the more a picture emerges of a board that was blindsided and questions about when the LEADERSHIP of the board knew about the project and CVS presentation at the May 8 meeting and about the LEADERSHIP's handling of the issues. Some board members spoke out to neighbors, circulated the petition, and I sat and stuffed envelopes with notifications of the special meeting at a board member's house. Don't paint the entire board with the broad brush of suspicion. But do tell the entire board that the least that they are guilty of is NOT asserting themselves to the LEADERSHIP at the May 8 board meeting where CVS appeared, refusing to vote without the customary private discussion, and insisting that the general membership be informed and given the opportunity to see the CVS presentation. Call every board member and tell them that you expect them to examine the board process that occurred in this case and to correct any problems so that the general membership does not get blindsided again. Tell them you want them to remain in their positions and to work this out. Our board members derive their authority from US, so call and tell them what you want and thank them for the good work they've done previously. And attend the special meeting, look very carefully at the CVS proposal, ask questions, state your opinions. Thanks. Susan

Nomination

Thanks for your vote of confidence, but I'm not unlike many members of the association. I attend meetings, but not all meetings, I support association events, but I've never sat on an association committee and am just beginning to understand the by-laws and the board process. As a result of the CVS issue, I've joined a committee, plan to join one more, and plan to serve at least a year. Then, perhaps I'd feel better prepared for a board position. I will tell you that board members have shared with me how difficult it is to find people willing to serve on the board and willing to be an officer. It's very hard work, it's requires a significant time committment.I hope others will increase their involvement in asociation meetings, will volunteer for committees, and will seek to serve on the board. AND, be sure to attend the special meeting June 13! Thanks, Susan

Replacing board members

Since Joyce Frey, President, resigned, the President-elect, Steve Lange, assumed her position. There are two vacant board positions, I believe. Call your board members and ask what the process is to fill vacant positions. Some board members reportedly were concerned that PRIOR to the entire board hearing Jackie Guensler's letter of resignation and accepting it, the President at that time allegedly moved to appoint a replacement without board input. Board members I spoke to had concerns about this. What are the procedures? Does the general membership have an opportunity to nominate and vote when vacancies occur prior to annual elections? Or, do we rely on the board to nominate and vote, or can a sitting President simply appoint someone? Call your board and ask. Susan

Filling vacancies on the Board

Hi, The By-Laws of the NSNA state in Article IV, section 7 the following

except that of President in which case the President-Elect shall assume the office for the remainder of the term.
