Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association

From the President

Posted in: Historic Old Northeast
When my husband and I moved to North Shore almost four years ago, we attended a neighborhood meeting just to check things out - find out what people were like, get some news, perhaps meet some new people. We were impressed with the dedication some people had to things like traffic calming, historic designation, crime prevention and code enforcement.

We became involved, first volunteering to walk the neighborhood and gather data for the historic designation application. Then I decided to run for the board to become more involved and contribute to keeping the momentum going in this rapidly improving neighborhood. I did not win the election but helped with the newsletter, and met wonderful people at the "folding parties" and learned more about issues in the neighborhood.

The next year I did win a seat on the board and this year am serving as President. I am writing to you to tell you that the same people I met the first year are primarily the same people I see now being involved - out of a neighborhood of 3,000 homes there are only a handful who are available or willing to volunteer to carry out the important work of maintaining our neighborhood. This is an appeal to anyone who has an interest in meeting people, being a part of the wonderful preservation and protection of this beautiful area or acting on issues of
interest.

We need people on all of our committees. Please contact any board member either on the phone or at a neighborhood meeting and find out how rewarding and interesting it can be to be involved.
