Membership Alert re: CVS

The proposed rezoning to accomodate CVS' drugstore development has reminded me how very critical it is to participate in my neighborhood association, to arm myself with facts, and to make my voice heard. I have often relied on the Board of the association to represent me, but, after speaking to three board members this morning, I want to alert members to contact every board member and inform them of your wishes regarding this project and it's potential impact on the neighborhood.Sign the petition being circulated requesting a special meeting of the membership Look for information beyond what you read in the St. Petersburg Times--I contacted the reporter who wrote the story published this a.m., who quoted Felix Fudge, presented as a resident, as opining that traffic on 9th Ave. would not be affected. Mr. Fudge has a business interest in this project! It is possible that board members' conduct regarding this issue has been affected by motives other than representing you and me and by problematic dynamics internally. Let's remind the board of their reason to be, which is to represent our interests and no one else's, and let's get involved to make it clear to the board that we're supportive of their work on our behalves but that we're watching as well! The fewer the residents who take an active role in the association, the more incestuous and unbalanced in power the process becomes. Contact Mark Woodley and Jim Martin if you've decided to oppose CVS, attend the Design Review meeting tonight 5/31 at 6:30 at 330 5th St. N., the Pelican Room, and CALL the neighborhood association board!
