Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association

Historic District Update

Posted in: Historic Old Northeast
I received a telephone call yesterday from Mr. Bob Jeffrys of the St. Pete Planning Dept. in regard to the recently submitted Historic District application. I delivered it to the city on Monday, August 14th.

He informed me that he thought the application looked great. He wanted to thank all of North Shore and most specifically those who did the work.

He said that he had spoken with the state and that he and they had a few additional items that they wanted us to correct or put into the application.

Four of the items are pretty easy. They basically consist of adding more text to our historical relevance statement in four different categories. Bob said he could supply some of the information and that we could get the rest from the HPA survey which was conducted for our neighborhood in 1993. Kate Hoffman and Linda Beaman will probably work on these items together.

The last item requires us to place property lines generally where they exist between the buildings we show on our maps. This will fall into the lap of Rob Wertz. Bob Jeffreys estimates about twenty hours of drafting to make these additional corrections.

I asked Bob J. if he would put all of this in writing with the appropriate backup and he said he would. Once I receive this letter I will make copies and deliver them to Linda Beaman, Kate Hoffman, Rob Wertz and I will save a copy for the board.

As soon as this last work is completed we will make the necessary multiple copies and deliver them back to Bob J. and he will then transmit the application booklets and maps to the state for their review.

NSNA is making good progress here. I will keep you posted.

Hooray!!!!

This is the positive ''stuff'' I like to see you spending your time on. If more time and effort was spent on these kinds of things instead of going door to door to tell your side of the story this neighborhood would be an even nicer place to live. You gain respect by continuing to contribute not ''he said she said'' I think at this point in the game people are a bit tired of that.

Yes. This is a lot better way to spend time instead of criticzing everybody and having weird meetings.

This response is being sent out over the air waves to some anonymous entity called Anita.

Anita or Anito, (it might be a guy disguised as a girl, you never know) I do not spend my time critizing everyone. I am being very specific who I critize which now includes you.

Let me see if I have this straight.

You and your buds run over me, attack Joyce, John, etc. and we are just supposed to roll over and take. I mean we are just supposed to say O. K. it happened lets go on with life. According to your way of thinking we should go back to what we were doing before you trounced us and accept it. Go back and just keep on working on our North Shore projects. Am I missing something here.

I dropped out of everything dealing with North Shore that I considered momentarily non essential. I dropped lanscaping, NDR, writing newsletter articles, the city team meetings, etc.
All I kept was my board position so I could keep a close eye on ''those people'' and the Chair of the Historic District Committee. Even I could not drop the historic committee. That was just to darn important to the association and to the city.

I dropped all of that other stuff so I could focus on you and your friends. And Anita or Anito, I am coming. You can count on it.
