I spoke with Mike Fredericks, the Manager of Neighborhood Transportation at the City, about the raised crosswalk at 1st St. north of 25th Ave after receiving calls of complaint about it last week. After the raised bricks were installed, the contractor pulled out without finishing the job as he didn't apply the raised asphalt leading to the crosswalk. Unfortunately, the City didn't find out that the crosswalk was incomplete until 12 hours later when they started receiving complaints. The City was unable to install the proper signage notifying people of the pedestrian crossing, the ''hump'' and the 15 mph speed limit over the crosswalk until the work was complete. The City has since had the raised grade asphalt mostly installed and the crosswalk is now properly signed. When I spoke with Mike Fredericks on Friday, April 20, he stated that one additional layer of asphalt is to be applied on either side of the crosswalk and then it will be complete.
