There will be a North Shore Neighborhood Association Traffic Committee Meeting on Thursday, March 14 at 6:30 PM at the Atlanta Bread Company
(Baywalk Parking Garage Building). We will be discussing:

- Beach Drive Traffic Calming
- City's Bicycle/Pedestrian Master Plan
- CVS Traffic Calming Plan Update
- Creation of a Hexblock Sidewalk District
- Restoration of Brick Streets
- Report from Bus Subcommittee
- Any Other Traffic-Related Concerns

St. Petersburg has been getting some good publicity on the conversion of
one-way streets to two-way, partly due to the efforts of everyone involved
in the CVS Traffic Calming plan. There was an article in the 3/2/02 St.
Petersburg Times on how Tampa is looking to St. Pete as an example of a
successful downtown. The article mentions that the City is trying to
convert one-way streets to two-way to slow traffic. In this month's Florida
Trend magazine, there was also a paragraph under the feature Around the
State - Southwest on St. Petersburg:

''St. Petersburg is converting 20 blocks along 8th Avenue North and 9th
Avenue North back to two-way traffic. The change will cost about $10,000.
The city spent thousands of dollars from 1960 to 1981 making the streets
one-way. The city hopes to open up more of its one-way streets to two-way
traffic partly to make the downtown business district more accessible for
customers.''

This is an encouraging example of how our organized and persistent efforts can produce results.

I look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
